Immunoprecipitation for protein identification, characterization and protein-protein interaction analysis

Immunoprecipitation (IP) is the technique of precipitating a protein antigen out of solution using an antibody that specifically binds to that protein. The protein of interest is isolated and enriched from a sample containing many thousands of different proteins. Identification of protein binding partners of the specific immunoprecipitated protein can also be performed.

The IP sample will be concentrated and digested using filter aided sample preparation (FASP) and follows the principles for protein identification described above.

Researchers are required to perform the IP themselves. There are several critical sample preparation steps that affect the downstream MS-analysis and they must be considered before performing the IP. Follow the advices in the protocol section and contact the facility to discuss the project prior to sample preparation.
